My first autumn in Dublin. It's getting chilly out and the smell of burning peat is in the air (and I'm sure it's no coincidence that my asthma is flaring up too). This is my first autumn in my life away from the Northeast of the US. Now, the leaves are falling here just as they do back home. But oh do I miss the foliage!
Back home the leaves are turning bright yellow, orange, and red. Here they just seem to turn a yellowish brown and fall off. It's kind of a let down! But maybe there is foliage to be found outside of the city. Still, I can't believe it would ever match the spectacular views of New England!
Yep - the leaf peepers are out in droves around here!
ReplyDeleteI don't just miss the foliage, but I really miss fall festivals, football games, and farm shops with pumpkins, gourds, and Indian corn hanging around.
ReplyDeleteNow you're going to depress me! I wonder if there are gourds anywhere in this city? In November I'm also sure going to miss Tofurkey!! The fake turkey loaves here just aren't the same.
ReplyDeleteI guess you've been through this, but this will be my first Thanksgiving away from the US!
I've always spent it with other Americans, and I'm not vegetarian, so it's not too hard for me! Actually now that I think about it, I was in America for Thanksgiving last year. They have whole turkeys at Lidl. You could try Fallon & Byrne in the city center to see if they have tofurkey. Or, Donnybrook Fair. That seems like the kind of place that will have it. If I see any, I'll let you know!
